Basic Horsemanship 101 This class is taught by Katrina Lomax, who has over 30 years of experience with all kinds of horses and disciplines. This class is for beginners and great for those that have never touched a horse. This is a hands on, ground class, in person, and no riding is involved.

About the event

This class will cover basics: safety, parts of the horse, equine first aid, common ailments and how to identify them, grooming, and feeding. This class is $40, but no cost to disadvantaged through Equine Safe Haven.  How to properly groom and use the grooming tools including picking the hooves.  Basics of what to feed your horse and what not to.  Safety lesson with handling your horse.  This is a discussion and hands on class.  You are assigned a horse at the beginning of the class to work with. By the end of the class, you will be able to demonstrate what you have learned using the horse.  This class is great for those that have never touched a horse, mule or donkey, or have had fear of horses, for those that are considering getting a horse or working with a horse, or just want a refresher and spend time with an equine!  This class is for ages 16 and up.  16 & 17 year olds will need a waiver from a parent or guardian to participate.  Payment is due in when you arrive prior to the class starting.  (Cash, there is 2.75% fee for credit card)Auditors are allowed if not participating.  Once you RSVP, you will receive an email confirmation, and more details of what to bring and with you that day.
